Welcome to Right Line Editing & Design ~ Work Samples

Short Samples of Editorial and Grammatical Correction

Much of what I have done is proprietary in nature. The following three samples will give a general idea of how original work is edited or rewritten. Following these samples are links to some smaller, non-proprietary pieces.

Sample A ~ rewriting for clarity and completion of a full thought

Before:
Less and less of us have ever and probably never will come in contact with what helps them find answers to life’s problems.

After:
In today’s fast-paced society, fewer people than ever before will encounter the ideas that provide satisfactory answers to the difficult issues of life.

Sample B ~ rewriting to include citation information, factual detail, and clarity in logic

Before:
Early last century, the Nobel prize was awarded for documentation that cancer cells feed on sugar (like fungi) and breathe anaerobically (like plants, in which category fungi fall).

After:
In 1931, the Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine was awarded to Dr. Otto Warburg “for his discovery of the nature and mode of action of the respiratory enzyme.”(1) Dr. Warburg documented that cancer cells feed on sugar (as do fungi) and breathe anaerobically (as do plants, into which kingdom fungi fall).

Sample C ~ rewriting to correct sentence structure and grammar
and to provide clarity and strength

Before:
Our company workflow is such that that which we can prioritize relating to fulfillment, and that which is the business reponse to the buyer. What I mean by that is that we must have a reasonable turnaround for the basic fulfillment of whatever the customer request is, but most importantly, we really need to achieve a buyer deliverable response time within 24 hours (no more than 48).

After:
Smith Company’s top priorities are timely, effective communication with our customers and prompt fulfillment of the customer request. Acceptable response times fall within 24 to 48 hours of initial contact from the buyer. Our response to the customer should verify the details of their order and provide them with the expected date of delivery.
